Hero Points (House Rule)

Things that have a tendency of happening in comics rarely happen in a role playing game. Heroes, busted, beaten and nearly dead find a reserve of courage deep within them and fight on with renewed vigor. Others have an accident and come out with a very different set of powers. Still others came back to continue the good fight despite everyone being sure that they’re dead. Sometimes the cavalry arrives just as the villain is about to unmask the hero, and other times heroes make the shot they would have thought impossible, seriously wounding the villain who, just a moment ago, seemed invincible.

For these situations we use Hero Points. At the end of each arc, heroes who survived it (played in at least one session of it, and are still alive at the end) are given a Hero Point along with the bonus XP. These points may be used for any of a number of benefits when the player feels he needs it.

• A point may be spent to survive an off camera death, that is to say a death from falling of an airship, starvation, bleeding to death and other such deaths were no one actually sees you die.
• Two points may be spent to survive an on camera death.
• A point may be spent to make your next attack automatically hit
• A point may be spent to make your next successful attack do max damage (IE, assume every dice came up a six)
• A point may be spent to be healed for 8d6 END and STUN, with the BODY rolled healing BODY damage.
• A point may also be spent on a“radiation accident”. At any dramatically appropriate time (having fallen into radioactive waste, been horribly maimed, been captured by VIPER, DEMON or Dr. Destroyer, having gotten a lot of free time) the player may declare that his character suffers a radiation accident rather than the usual effect. He may then redistribute 25% of his character points as he sees fit, representing the character losing old powers and gaining new ones as he is mutated by radiation, cybernetically repaired, experimented on, or gets time to train underused powers.
